View Full Version : Recording? Non-quantized Grid?

I noticed the word 'rec' in the upper left corner to the right of the transport. Are there plans to support recoding of midi? Or is this perhaps to record a performance of presets into the linear arrangement?

I'd like to see the ability to record notes from a midi keyboard/piano - and with the option to retain human timing. Are there plans to provide a note module which allows for an unquantized note grid?

I do like the note modules you have now, but this would allow me to inject some manual swing/groove by actually playing the notes myself. While I'm thinking of it, an unquantized grid for the other note modules would be pretty cool too.

this is recording the audio output of Num2

I think something like this is planned for a pro version later on ...

what is wrong with the groove clock for that?

hope that helps

Could you elaborate a bit? Wouldn't that affect the entire composition? I would want perhaps only unquantized notes playing for only one module.

Edit: Oh I see you can add a groove clock per stack. Is this what you're suggesting? Hmmm. I see how this could be quite powerful.

Each sequencer has a clock input - (see tutorial three)

You have the groove clock module (which is the same as the one in the clock stack) - so you can add a groove clock to your stack above the note sequencer and connect its clock input to the local groove clock.
Then this will only affect the connected.

If you want to affect the whole composition use the groove clock stack ...

The record function is currently for audio recording of the main
or alt mix busses. I'll be extending it later to include other things,
but I can't say exactly what that will be or what order it will be in.

Yes, but I don't have a schedule for it yet. I want to make sure that the design for such a feature fits both what users will expect from a piano-roll type module, and fits well with the overall Numerology paradigm.

I do like the note modules you have now, but this would allow me to inject some manual swing/groove by actually playing the notes myself. While I'm thinking of it, an unquantized grid for the other note modules would be pretty cool too.

As mentioned in the other posts, you can use extra clock modules in stacks to get custom per-part grooves. I also plan to add groove timing options to the other sequencers (sometime after 2.0).

Cheers,
Jim

It would be awesome to have a piano roll so I could finally cut ableton live out of my setup. It would also be cool if you could do stepwise recording into it (like step record on an MPC). Viva la Numerology!
