When working on a piece where I plan to use preset changes to make 'live' arrangements, I find it very useful to create a preset for each stack that plays nothing-- it generates no notes or sounds of any sort. I title it "Muted" and move it to the top of the preset list for that stack.
Then, when making changes to the presets across multiple stacks (in the Mixer panel), I can easily choose presets for a stack or two, and mute another, without having to move the mouse all the way down to the bottom of the mixer to hit the mute button. With a little practice, I can trigger 3 or 4 preset changes quickly enough so that they all change together at the next bar, thus making it practical to perform impromptu live arrangements just with mouse clicks.
Of course, this "Muted" preset, like all others, can also be triggered by assigning a MIDI note, Prog Change, or the computer keyboard, which makes it even easier to perform a live arrangement.
Cheers,
Jim
