I am the ultimate matchmaker!
My friend Jerry recently married a sweet Chinese girl I introduced to him, and now thanks to me Numerology and Studio One are happily joined at the hip (via ReWire). I hope these two find passion and a lifelong commitment. I hope and pray there will be harmony and melody and rhythm.

Issue#1:
In Studio One, when trying to launch Numerology as a ReWire device . . . the pop-up "launch application" does not work. However, if I manually launch N3 they do sync up.
Issue#2
I am not able to access the output of N3.
There must be a way to set this up.

According to this dude the output drop down should give me the option to select N3's output, but no dice!
Hang on a bit, I'll put tother a proper set of instructions...
Cheers,
Jim

Excellent! Getting the outputs going would change the way I work.
:-).
Almost there -- you use the "CH" menu in the instrument window to enable other input channels -- each will get it's own mixer channel. But, I can't find an easy way to record the audio, so I'm waiting on a friend who knows Studio One better than I do...

Thanks!! I appreciate your efforts and I know others will too. I am certain Studio One will become a HUGE player in the upcoming years. It's just so much more intuitive and user-friendly that any of the others.

Jim, I know you are busy . . . I sense a big release . . . but please don't forget us Studio One users and our needs. :-).
We are squeaky and need GREASE!
Yes, I know, you're still on the list... have been very much under the weather all week....*sigh*...

I hope you're feeling better. Vitamin C and banging away on the Launchpad will cure anything!

A known issue, simple workaround: start Numerology manually....

Funny, I totally know that guy! ;)
So the setup he is showing in the video is for MIDI communication from Studio One to Reason. For Numerology, use it's virtual MIDI ports or an IAC bus -- I have a note to update N3's MIDI i/o options when running in ReWire mode...
BTW: In Studio One, you have to manually setup all MIDI I/O for external devices -- including IAC busses...
For Audio Output (something not covered in that video), when you add an Instrument track in StudioOne, you can add mixer channels for all supported audio outputs in N3 using the dialog that comes up (see the screenshot). That will create a mixer channel for each output.
Now, to get recorded audio clips from those tracks, I think the easiest option is to just enable recording on the desired stacks in Numerology, do a record pass, then drop those audio files (from the .media folder for the N3 project) into tracks in StudioOne.

Thanks Jim, I'll give it a go. I guess I was assuming N3 would be be identified the same as Reason or Live or the others. If workarounds work that works for me!

At present . . . what do you think is the best way to work with Studio One and Numerology? I mean, is it too clunky and work-aroundish to have N3 open as a plugin in SO? I'm trying to get a basic powerful setup to start with. Right now I'm stuck because I'd like to use SO's Impact drum machine, but sequence with N3. I'm confused there and wonder if I need to use something like iDrum in N3 standalone and then move all the note and .wavs to SO/Impact later.
Any suggestions for what would be the simplest, most powerful way to work?

If you're running N3 as a VST in Studio One, then just add an instrument track for the desired synth, then
set the MIDI input for that track to the N3 VST's MIDI output.... (let me know if you need more details...)
Jim,
A. I have N3 running within Studio One as a VST on its own track. I added an additional virtual instrument track (Impact Drum Machine) and selected N3 as for that instruments input. N3 is sync'd, recieving midi from my USB controller, and the stack I created in N3 is triggering sounds in Impact and I can hear them, but I'm not able to trigger any of the sounds via my controller. What am I doing wrong?
B.With this configuration what would be the best way for me to transfer a stack info from N3 to a midi track in S.O.?
C. With this configuration what would be the best way for me to transfer audio data from N3 to an instrument track in S.O. (assuming I have some audio stuff loaded in N3 by way of sample synth or drum kit)?
If you're running N3 standalone or in ReWire mode, then use an IAC bus to pipe MIDI to the correct instrument channel in Studio One. (let me know if you need more info on IAC busses...)
I'm having trouble getting this going. Can you give more details for me?
Which method is better as far as latency and smoothness of integration . . . running N3 in VST or Rewire/Standalone mode?
Thanks in advance,
With Hope,
Tommy Zai

Not to say I'm any expert in VST integration, but I can see there is an issue here with the midi from your controller.
It looks to me that when Numerology is used as a VST in a host then it's generating the midi stream within that host. It's not thought of as a midi pipe from external controllers. Are the midi inputs into the Numerology active as in the standalone version or are they greyed out. if they are active then I would just connect the input to the stacks output. I must get into this VST integration stuff if only to be more of a help in these situations. I'm an old hand at troublshooting midi sequencers from years ago. But now I work just with numerology it's so much more interesting to me at this stage to dream up a whole new way of working..
Anyways you should see an active input from your midi control into a track. If it does not work through Numerology could you make a dedicated input track for you controller and route it in parallel to your Numerology VST.
The only reason I can see you would use a midi controller in combination with Numerology as a VST is if you are using a Numerology Sequencer in MidiTrigger Play or Gated mode. The Numerology sequencer needs to be in record mode "Realtime input" and perhaps Transpose has to be on.
If you not using it this way then going parallel or routing you midi input directly from the stack input to the stack output would be the way to go.
I just fired off a lot of ideas on this subject, I'm sure it's just a simple thing that you are missing..

Wade

I think he needs to setup a "MIDI Thru" in the N3 VST... (see next post...)
