View Full Version : shift start/end of sequence

Currently the shift operation shifts the notes between the start and end of a sequence.
I would like an additional shift operation (two new buttons at the top of the sequencing modules) that shift the start+end markers of the sequence. So I want to basically create a "window" over a longer sequence and shift the window across the sequence, instead of shifting the notes within the window.
And if we could sequence/modulate the shifting, that would rock.
Is there a way to simulate this right now?
Hello
have a look to this PoolSeqs, they show how the modulation of the start and endsteps of every sequencer is possible.
Even negative start / endsteps are working with Numerology.
Negative means that the endstep is lower than the startstep.
All the Seqs in Numerology behave as closed circles of steps and you can deside completly free from which step you want to start and on what step you want to end!
And the best this all could be done dynamically even when the Seqs are running.
Welcome to the power of Numerology!

Hi Jue,
Thanks for the examples, this is cool stuff and pretty close to what I want.
However, I would really like if the start/end position would be modulo the sequence length, because I want it to wrap around. So if I have a sequence of length 16 and the end position is an offset of 8 from the start, I want to be able to set the start to 9 and have the end wrap around to 1. Currently it will put the end at step 17, off the end of the sequence.
I don't think there's any CV processing modules that can help me do this right now. If Numerology had a modular arithmetic option in the Scale & Offset module (or a new modulo module, hehe that's a tongue twister), then I could do what I want.
And regardless, I think having another set of << and >> buttons to move the start/end position together with some mouse clicks would be nice. Or maybe if there was a way to click and drag both the start and end together, so I could maintain the sequence length while manipulating the start/end on the fly during playback. Instead of those options, I'd also be ok making my own controls with a FaderBox if I could do the modular arithmetic...
So maybe this is a request for some modular arithmetic features.

Hello,
please have a look to my ° wrap around °.
Think that makes what you want.
To avoid the problem of step 17 is just having that step.
The example shows you the idea:
You want to loop around a melody with 8 steps so you have to put in your melody two times first as you like from step 1 to 8 and for the extented loopfunctions from step 9 to 16 again.
Now you can shift your loop in any possible position over your melody.
This is what I call ° manual mathematic °,
because you have to do manual work to avoid the use of mathematics.
There are other ways to do this also, but I wanted to keep near at your ideas as possible.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I can work with this, and yes it is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Well, except when I added another sequence to serve as a reference point, I realized you can't hear the shifts! That was easily fixed by turning on the hard sync.
The hard sync and auto-reset allow for some interesting variations of this approach. I also like using a "window" smaller than the length of the melody. That's actually what my original idea was.
I updated your example to demonstrate what I'm talking about (try the different presets).
I'm curious what other ways you know of to do something like this.
