View Full Version : save AU state with presets?

Is it possible? It looks like not really...
i'm not really changing a lot in structure of track, so changes in sound also quite important...
I think there are two ways(or more of course):
to save state as a independent preset(can be quite slow i think if somebody will decide to change to absolutely new sound/preset)
special module for controlling/automating few parameters, like XY box, with faders/knobs, also useful for fast manual access to synths...(i think i made a request some time ago)...
i think it is VERY useful feature!
Thanx!
I had to turn off that feature to avoid some "issues" with the way
some audio units handle the AU spec. In general though, it is better
to setup some FaderBox modules with ParamMods to control the
parameters you want to change, as that is much more reliable than
trying to reload the entire AU preset when one of Numerology's preset
changes. This is approach very similar to the feature you've
requested, but takes a little bit longer to setup. I do want make it
easier to setup control panels for AU's but other items have priority
right now.
Another option is to consider using MIDI preset changes to change the
AU preset, the ProgChange module is very handy for that...
Cheers,
Jim

Ok, i found FaderBox, it looks like what i need, but what is ParamMods? i thought it is also a module...how can i connect fader to particular parameter of my synth, if i don't know it's cc number?
Thank you!

to see what CC is sent from your synth you can use midimonitor (http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/)
a simple but very useful app that monitoring you midi data flow

The ParamMod module allows you to take a CV signal and use it to control just about any parameter, whether it is a Numerology param, or an AU param. Each ParamMod module has two sets of controls, so if you use 4 of them, you can have each of the 8 faders in the FaderBox controlling a parameter.
For detailed info on the ParamMod, see the reference page for the ParamMod:
http://five12.com/doc/ParamMod.html
and also this detailed page on parameter modulation in general:
http://five12.com/doc/ParameterMod.html
But here is the high-level view of how to set things up:
- Add a FaderBox to the stack where you want your 'control panel' to live.
- Add 4 ParamMod modules to the same stack.
- On the routing page, route each of the CV outs from the FaderBox to the corresponding CV inputs on the ParamMod modules.
- Back on the front panel, setup each ParamMod to control a parameter by picking the target module and target parameter you want to control. In your case, you would always pick the AU for the target module.
- You can customize the names of the faders by double-clicking on their labels.
Give it a try, and drop me a note if you have questions. It will seem a bit odd when you first do it, but gets much easier once you get going.
Also, as amsonx mentioned, you can generate MIDI CC values directly out of the FaderBox. If the AU supports this, then they are easier to setup, if not, then ParamMod is the way to go.

o'key, i've got ParamMod to work, thank you.
Yes, i've also noticed that faderbox can send cc messages itself, and it can work for me, but i still don't get how to find out which cc number i must choose, midi monitor probably will not show anything if i will just rotate manipulate some controls in AU interface...
What you mean by "if your synth supports it"? I thought every synth supports cc messages, no?

No, i definitely don't get this:
"to see what CC is sent from your synth you can use midimonitor

is there any au's that sending midi data outside? i can be interested it this:)

I'm not sure if this is your problem, but there's usually different ways to control
parameters in your synth from Numerology.
Probably you can assign a Midi Control Change (CC) number to the parameters
in your synth, by ctrl-clicking on the fader, pot or any other thing
you want to control from Numerology.
Sometimes there is a dedicated "midi learn" button in the GUI of the
synth. Depending on your softsynth, you first activate "midi learn", then move
the parameter you want to assign a CC to, and lastly move the faderbox CC
you want to use as a controller.
Some softsynths are shipped with a default Midi-map, where most of
the synths parameters are preassigned to a CC. This information should be listed in the synths
documentation, or in an accompanying textfile. If that's the case you just
enter the corresponding CC numbers in the faderbox.
And as Jim has already mentioned, there is some synths reacting to Program Changes,
and then there's the ParamMod: Found in the dropdown panel on the
ModulationSeq, LFO and the Envelope, and in it's own dedicated module. You choose a
Target Module from the dropdown menu (eg. your synth) and a Target Param
(the Parameter you want to control). If your using the dedicated ParamMod, you
need to patch in some kind of a CV-signal to it's input (eg. one axis of a XY-pad, a dualLFO etc.).
But you knew this, right?

okey! stupid me!!! i'm always using midi-learn, of course! haha, it's just i didn't think about faderbox AS a usual midi controller...thank you, now i have my state of au with preset solution...

Hurray!!!
With FaderBox glide feature i've got answers on two of my big requests! Now i can save AU state with preset and even morph between them slowly...
Thank you very much, Jim!!
Now if i only can have step programming with midi controller...

Setting up presets with faderbox and XYpads, for morphing is nice:)
Now if i only can have step programming with midi controller...
What do you mean by this?

Oh, it is not about au's any more, old request...many people waiting for it i guess...

by the way, i think it is better to move this to requests, is it possible?
