I'm trying to use my Zoom H4N to input audio into Numerology to process. Occasionally, I get this horrible runaway digital distortion. Sometimes only on one channel, sometimes on both. Once it starts, I can't get it to go away.

Any ideas what I need to tweak to get this to work better?

Thanks!
Bryan

I don't know much about this device, but I assume it can work as a USB audio
interface, yes? Try tweaking the buffer size (larger is safer) and sample rate
(lower is safer) to see if that changes the behavior.

If you're using a different device for audio output, it could be a
clocking issue.
A possible workaround there is to use Audio MIDI Setup to create an aggregate
audio device which uses the Zoom for input and something else for output.
However, Numerology can have problems with Aggregate devices that are
"incomplete" (i.e. one of the devices is missing). That is a bug I am working
on. Nonetheless, I think an aggregate device is worth trying in your case.

Also, next time it happens, send me this file:
<your home dir>/Library/Logs/NumerologyLog.txt.

Also, send me a screenshot (cmd-shift-4) of your audio settings in Numerology,
I may notice something else...

I'll look into the audio code to see if I can put some extra stuff in to detect
problems of this sort.

Best,
Jim
