Hello,
here is a nice AU plugin Bad Cable and its free:
http://sounds.wa.com/software.html
It makes what the name says, it simulates a bad cable. This produces some harsh distortion, much like a super fast gate might create.
If you miss your old studio problems, then its for you?!
