Ableton Live 6 with Numerology - It's pretty hard.

Hi !

I just tried Numerology with Live.

I think I can say : "it works"...... but with 60% of idle cpu consommation. If I play, I reach the 360% ! I never saw this before :p

I'm trying to play on Live + Numerology for midi sequencing awesome capabilities of Numerology and audio routing capabilities of Live. I'll play my livesets with a huge midi sequencer and a pretty good sound ! Hell Yeah !

On monday I'll try Logic Pro 8 + Numerology. I'm sure I can do that :)

About cpu consommation.... Any idea ?

- What's your mac speed and cpu model

- Are you using ReWire?

- Macbook Intel Core 2 Duo 2 Ghz, OS 10.5

- Yep ! And I found a semi-solution : start Numerology first. No Rewire, IAC midi bus (16x) and it's nice. A bit complicated, but nice !

I have seen CPU issues intermittently with Pro Tools in ReWire mode, but never with Live, will look into it.

FYI: I'll be posting a tutorial on integrating N2 with Live via MIDI Clock and soundflower next month... (and there will be a chapter in the manual on it)

Hum...

Here, it's more "permanently" than intermittently. And I use commercial version of Live 6. Maybe I should buy 7 ?

I tried soundflower but N2 and rewire doesn't let me use 16 outputs of sounflower. I'll try again with more coffee. Tutorial would be nice !

Here's the 'very short' version:

- Unless you plan to use the ReWire driver regularly, remove it
(from /Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire),
then you don't have to worry about which app you start first.

- Start Numerology and set it to use Soundflower16 for I/O. You'll
need to restart N2 to get the change to 'take'.

- Setup Numerology to sync to Live via MIDI Clock, or have Live
sync to Numerology via MIDI Clock or MTC, see the N2 manual for
details.

- To pipe Numerology's audio into Live, choose one of the soundflower
busses as the input to a channel.

it works great :)

I can make my patterns in N2 and inject it into Live with IAC Bus'. But N2 doesn't support 16 channels of Soundflower, only 2.

Try opening the "Patchbay Setup" dialog (in the main Numerology menu),
choose the Audio Output tab, and enable extra channels --- This was just
enabled with beta 30, I wasn't sure if I should default to enable all, or
only just a pair....
