The more I'm moving out of working with Live and working with Numerology the more I want a decent drum synth/sampler audio unit... anybody know of some affordable/free ones out there?

iDrum from http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/idrum/ ('http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/idrum/') is one of my
favorites. It has its own step sequencer and third-party drum banks
include lots of good sequencing pattern banks as well. But it is also
good as a simple drum sample player.

I also use RMX from Spectrasonics. iDrum and RMX are very different
though. For sequencing from Numerology iDrum wins my vote while RMX is
what I use when I need to play back drum loop files with the RMX
random based variation engine "Chaos".

I'm looking for something that gives a little more control over the synthesis of the sounds than idrum, parameters that I may automate with numerology

When i'm working with samples, i simply use the Drum Kit module of Numerology, it suits my needs.

For Drum synths i've µTonic, really fat sound, i found it easy to use, and really low on CPU.

I hesitated a long time between µTonic and DKS.
DKS is really beautifull, but not friendly with my G4.

Hello,

did you ever think about the Waldorf Edition with the Attack?
The bundle contains the Attack, the PPG Wave and the D-Pole filter.

Here the infos from the Waldorf page - http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/products/attack

Waldorf Attack Percussion Synthesizer
The Attack is a percussion synthesizer with a powerful virtual-analog synth engine. It seamlessly integrates the sound of the 80's analog classics and the ambitious electronic club drums of the 90's into the virtual instrument hosts of the 21st century. The Attack generates all its sounds in real time, giving you the freedom to alter all parameters directly. The Attack has 24 sounds available per percussion set, spread over two octaves. The sound architecture is extremely flexible, as one would expect from a Waldorf synthesizer. Two oscillators, each with nine waveforms, represent the sources. In addition to well-known analog waveforms, the Attack offers three samples to help create hi-hats or crash cymbals. Ring modulation and frequency modulation expand the sound spectrum with metallic components. The integrated "Crack" module takes care of reproducing analog handclaps authentically. The Attack contains a filter section with 6 filter types, resonance up to self-oscillation, and an overdrive of up to +52dB. The two envelopes are used to alter oscillator pitches, FM amount, filter cutoff, and output volume. Two modulation delays and 6 stereo outputs connect the Attack to the digital world. Seamless integration into virtual instrument hosts means that all parameters may be addressed via MIDI controllers, allowing you to create powerful dynamic changes. And as though this were not enough - twelve sounds in each drum set can be played melodically. With this feature you can create tom fills and conga or other percussive grooves in no time, and you can even play bass, melody or sequencer lines. Create whole tracks with just one Attack!

just an idea

PS: Its 49 Euros here in europe

The bundle contains the Attack, the PPG Wave and the D-Pole filter.

Waldorf Edition LE is available on the cover disc of this month's Beat magazine (http://www.falkemedia-shop.de/product_info.php?info=p456_Beat-07-2009.html&XTCsid=73127029e65b4999c53585acd5014734) (from Germany). It includes a slightly cut down version of attack (less polyphony and only stereo outs I think), a cut down version of PPG Wave (8 notes polyphony) and the full version of D-Pole.

I've just ordered it for about €8, including delivery to the UK.

AudioRealism Drum Machine (http://www.audiorealism.se/adm/adm_announcement.htm) is also really good for €95. It models the 909, 808 and 606, and you can also load your own samples. I use this with Numerology, and automation seems to work fine.

For a free sample player try UVI Workstation (http://www.uvisoundsource.com/article_info.php?articles_id=8). This is primarily designed as a means of playing back UVI's own content, but you can actually load and manipulate your own samples - it has loads of features and effects too.

I think I'll go this route as well, I find the sounds in µTonic extremely rich and detailed, combining that with some ethnic /world percusion samples and orchestral percussion samples would be a dream set-up

Best Regards

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd mention Drumaxx from Image-Line.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd mention Drumaxx from Image-Line.

I've got the Demo, I actually like the interface better than micro tonics and the sounds seem quite alive. hmmm. There is also Drumspillage but I'm not that enamored with the heavy black interface. I used minispillage and feel I'm not getting the most out of the instrument because of USER IGNORANCE!! So I'd like more included presets as I find that usings synths that have a decent selection of presets inspires me andhelps to get me started on making my own sounds.

Best regards

I've got AudioSpilage - Drumspillage and AudioRealism - ADM.

AudioSpillage is the most fun drum synth I've played, although I really enjoy learning synthesis techniques with a clean slate. The various synth models are majorly fun to design odd and useful sounds.

ADM is only good for 606, 808 and 909. That's why I got it.

Yup I really looked hard at audio and drum spillage quite amazzing work, It was just killing my 2.4 Ghz mid 2007 imacs CPU so it did the kamikazee off my list, I ended up getting the maschine as it's sample based it's kinder on the CPU.

I'll soon upgrade the maschine to 1.6 then I can use it to host VST or AU's and will for fun, try out the Audiospillage, if I feel I need more bang bang clang shh chhaa and wapp.

I've also toyed with the idea of getting Microtonic at some point, which has just been upgraded to v. 3 and is reported to be more CPU friendly, but the white interface is not my cup tea.
!!!! Really he don't like white, he don't like black, what's wrong with im!!

Regarding CPU usage, DrumSpillage 1.2 added the ability to freeze each of your pads. I believe this renders each frozen pad to a high res sample in RAM, which saves a ton of power.

Sample export has also been added.

If you want tweakable, electronic sounds, microTonic is the best in my book. Plus, you can put it into midi-note mode and use it as a funky mono synth (great for punchy bass and interesting noise).

I like the authenticity of the AudioRealism AU, but like the real 808 and 909 it's emulating, I find it's a real beast to control in your mix (though, the 606 with the "mangle" knob is a thing of beauty). It really is a fun AU, but a bit limited out of the box compared to the 'tonic.
