This question was on KVR recently:

... with apologies if you are the owner of that thread ;)
Which MoogerFooger(s) do you want to emulate? There are quite a few. I have the phaser, delay and CP-251 control box. To cover the delay and phaser sound it's difficult to beat Soundtoys native bundle (Echoboy and Phase Mistress). Not cheap, and you need an iLok but they work with Numerology and sound great.

Although the Soundtoys phaser, delay and tremolo are able to emulate most of the classic gear, the sound is achieved through tweaks to the parameters of each plug-in using advanced tweak mode. It is really difficult to tell the difference between the the hardware and software, and you also have many other emulations to choose from e.g. the Boss DM-2 analogue delay is also really accurate.
Re the filter sound, you won't get an accurate Moog sound unless you go for UAD or a real Moog filter. It's about as simple as that. FilterFreak is a great filter, but it's not attempting to emulate anything specific.
If Soundtoys is too expensive, another alternative is Uhbik from U-he (Zebra synth). Not really "Moog-a-like" but they have a great character and awesome value for money. The flanger (Uhbik-F) is one of the best sounding flanger effects, in hardware or software!!! The phaser is also very good, and the filter is quite unique. Uhbik-X is out soon, which will be interesting because that will be the CP-251 control box covered, letting you control 4 Uhbiks in a single plug-in.

Both these sets of effects get a LOT of use here!!!
It's probably worth mentioning the D-CAM: Synth Squad release too. It's not out yet, but I've been helping FXpansion to beta test (actually now a release candidate), it'll be available in the next month or so. This set of plug-ins is in a class of it's own sound wise. They absolutely nail the analogue sound, and the effects are exceptional - MoogerFooger sounds definitely possible and you get plenty of control between synths and effects similar to proper modular setup. You have to hear them to believe them, seriously good sht!!!!!

Hope that helps.

Andy.
