View Full Version : Misc Updates (MonoNoteAU, Volta & SilentWay Tech Vids)
New tech videos:
I've got the tutorial videos for Volta & SilentWay ready:
http://www.five12.com/movies/N2Tech-Volta-H264.mov
http://www.five12.com/movies/N2Tech-SilentWay-H264.mov
They just need writeups and web pages. Both videos show the basics of getting started with each plugin, as well as some details on how to use them.
The MonoNoteAU:
AudioUnit hosting for the MonoNoteAU is about 75% done (pict below). The main things missing are a proper shutdown sequence, and support for saving AU preset data from the hosted AU along with the MonoNote. I also plan to add support for showing AU params from the hosted AU so you can automate them (along w/ MonoNoteAU params). All the work that was done to host AUs in ReWire mode with Numerology is really paying off here.
One of the hassles with a complex AU implementation is dealing with differences in the way hosts shutdown AU's (long story). One of the nice
things about working on the AU hosting impl. for the MonoNote is that it has clarified to me how to approach the shutdown procedure in a way that will be very resilient to differences in the way AU hosts behave.
In case you were wondering, the reason to add AU hosting to the MonoNote is that then you get sample-accurate note triggering with zero latency...
Cheers,
Jim

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTT.
Got it running in Live there as well I see. Woot.
One question / point worth noting.
Will Numerology pick up from where the play head is with all of it's sequences running in relation to what happens from the first beat of the bar (or could this be a feature that is turn on / off-able?)
I..e I am working on something with a fairly complex interlinked sequence, say, 3 over 8 over 13 over 14. It would be a right pain to have to go back to the start and listen to the whole thing again just to get to the right point. i am sure this has been accounted for but I wanted to check.
I know that free rnning LFo's were the bane of my life when i first started getting into making electronic music (with a korg oasys card *sigh*) So I am hoping that this isn't going to be the case with Num 3. AU etc.
How exciting. . .

Also, questions questions questions,
Will these work with the freeze function in Live?
And, if so, will hosted plugs like UAD and the powercore virus work with the freeze function?
And, if frozen will then then release the card resources to load another plug instance?
Thanks
TS

Right now it locates to the same spot as the host, but I could definitely see instances where a "wait until the next bar to start" option could be useful.

Both free-running and locked-to-the-clock options will be available. They're actually available now, but I'm tweaking the LFO algorithm to track the clock exactly instead of just tracking tempo.

I assume that should all work, but I haven't tested the freeze function yet.
Also, testing AU's that are tied to hardware is always tricky when one doesn't have said hardware.... (another todo item for me at NAMM....)

I can't get the silent way video to load in a browser or Quicktime.

I honestly do not need to see these videos anyway, I will just want modular $$$$ hardware...
Give it another try, it may just be an internet thing. Oh the hardware front, one of the great things about these plugins is that they allow you to do more with fewer modules, as you can shift some (or all) of your control stuff (LFO's, Envelopes, etc) to the computer. One of the things I want to try is to see how much I can get out of a single oscillator with a filter and VCA, but I'm going to need to make some more cables...

Hrmmm.. it still just loads infinitely. The other one plays fine.
I was considering getting one of those baby Doepfer cases with a Polyvoks filter and some OSC. A $600 starter modular. But I guess you still need a VCA and probably at least one hardware ADSR?
Some of the modules that seem so cool, like the Wogglebug are more $ and take too much space for the little case.
The Chimera is cool too, but I don't think it uses regular voltages.
I guess my deal is that I fret over spending even $100 on another BCR (my family is Po'!) and I know nothing about which Osc to choose for what sound, etc..

kodama - I assume you know about muff's forum? If not, it's a great modular info source:
